Timetooth started the project with a global technological survey and feasibility studies. It was found that existing products are not 100% fall safe and come with multiple prerequisites for initiating treatment. Timetooth also identified the existing design challenges like high exo-skeleton on-body weight, lack of dynamic unweighing, installation of overhead rails, donning and doffing efforts and time. Timetooth conceptualised an innovative combination of Mobile & Dynamic Body Weight Support (DBWS) and Lower Extremity Exo-skeleton (LEE).
As a next step, simulation-driven engineering was used to create detailed designs addressing problems identified in the benchmark products. The design allowed early intervention reducing rehabilitation time considerably and 100% fall safety maximized the number of patients that could be treated using the device. Timetooth assembled a functional prototype with high quality sourcing and manufacturing of components. The prototype was rigorously tested to be fit/ready for the trials. Clinical trials were conducted focusing on effective rehabilitation at Nimhans, Bangalore in presence of the Timetooth team. During the trials, multiple patients reported life changing benefits measured through locomotor abilities.
