Challenge

The OEM was developing a futuristic RV with a contemporary exterior design, while also improving drag efficiency.

Timetooth with more than a decade of experience in the automobile industry was hired to analyze multiple designs of RVs.

Service Area

Advance Simulation Engineering

Timeline

September 2022 to January 2023

The drag force, drag coefficient and effective frontal area for different towable and tow vehicles was estimated using advanced simulations.

Key Engineering Solutions

1. Simulation results were interpreted for minimizing drag.

2. The effect of various parameters like the change of curvature, splitters, etc. on the performance of the vehicle were analysed.

Solutions

Timetooth initiated the project with a study of the design model shared by the client and vehicle aerodynamic model was meshed as per the standards. Necessary boundary conditions were mapped as per the operating scenario specified. The drag force, drag coefficient and effective frontal area for different towable and tow vehicles was estimated using advanced simulations.

Simulation results were then interpreted for minimizing drag. Additionally the effect of various parameters like the change of curvature, splitters, etc. on the performance of the vehicle were analysed. Cumulative assessment of simulation results and specific design directions was shared with the client.

Key Highlights

ROI for the client

As a result of suggested external design improvements, the client achieves a significant reduction in drag force, thus resulting in better fuel economy for the vehicle.
