Challenge

The client in its pursuit of innovating a Electric 3 Wheeler for last-mile delivery and entering a new market wanted to validate and optimize the design for structural strength and rigidity. The challenge was to optimize the structure while meeting the weight and packaging constraints.

Timeline

March 2022 to May 2022

Weak areas were identified and strengthened by interpreting simulation results and understanding model behaviour.

Key Engineering Solutions

1. Structural analysis was carried out by applying suitable boundary conditions and equivalent “g” loads.

2. Modal analysis was performed to assess the mode shape and natural frequency of the model in both with and without accessories conditions.

Solutions

Timetooth initiated the project with study of the design model shared by the client and meshing of the vehicle as per the standards. Operational loading conditions were defined jointly by the Timetooth team and the client team. Structural analysis was then carried out by applying suitable boundary conditions and equivalent “g” loads for simulating the accelerating, braking, pothole, cornering etc load cases considering different parameters.

Further Modal analysis was performed to assess the mode shape and natural frequency of the model in both with and without accessories conditions.

Simulation results were interpreted to understand model behaviour and identify and strengthen weak areas. Design iterations were done to strengthen the model for strength and rigidity considering the weight and packaging constraints. Analysis along with revised design was shared with the client.

Key Highlights

ROI for the client

The client received an optimised chassis structure.

The Project was completed in a short span of 3 months.
